Angry tranny problems

i have a 04 3500 dually 4x4 with a 48re (i guess) it is a auto with 90k miles on it. but, it will tach out at 4000 rpm just to get going from a stop light with a 11k pound trailer. with no trailer it will still tach out at 3k rpm just to get going. fuild is still red and does not smell burnt (EDITED: it does today, burnt bad). just had the trans serviced by dodge 11k miles ago. (which they told me there is no adjustments for bands on this transmission) but it started acting up shortly after i had the tranny serviced. (which i should stated that they over filled it. i put 15k miles on it before i cought it. but cant prove becuase they do not state how many qts. they use to fill the tranny for a service. i had to sit on the side of the road for 2 hrs cyphoning old school to get it to the proper level (1/2 gal over) ). is it toast?
which is what i have come to belive. any suggestion?

70k on driveline 100k on engine. i will be ordering a stage 5 w/commander tomarrow not a bad price compared to the oem replacement that cant be found, the dealer quoted me alittle over 10k to rebuild it after they found the parts, (but they have never had the new 48re tranny aprt so it might take us awhile). or the oem parts that cant be had yet. i thought i was getting a good truck. didnt know i had to peice one together. DEALERS SUCK! thats where all my problems started. 60k service has come to the death of my truck. they just dont care that people buy these truck to make living with not just to look pretty sitting in the driveway. what happen to to days when you bought a truck and you meant something to the dealer you bought it from. A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE? i'm waiting for the japenesse to make a 1 ton. they are making everything else

That sucks, a new tranny for an 04 already. 90K!! on an 04. You must work it hard. That's not really all that bad, stock tc only seem to last 100k give or take. The ATS should last longer than 100k. Good Luck.

There are band adjustment in 2 location on the 48RE. One is on the drivers side of the tranny above the shifter and the other you have to remove the tranny pan.

Really sorry to hear of your troubles. These trannys do take a beating though. But they still should be able to do the job efficiently with longevity. I never had an auto in a truck, but both our Honda cars with auto trannies are unbelievable, they work so good, no button pushing, no shuddering, no worries, they compensate for the hills and even have engine braking going down the backside of a hill. DC needs to talk to Mercedes or Honda for a robust 21st century auto. BTW have you talked to Dave at Goerends about your tranny? He is a super Guy. Hope all turns out well for you.

StormTrooper,

Ten Grand! I'm in the wrong line of work! Talk about a ***********!

You will love the ATS tranny, and the Commander is worth every penny.

10k sounds WAY out of line.47re with new convertors and as long as NOT totaled which normally no clue until teardown ran between $2800 and $3200 and that was in a DEALER with factory parts.48re not that much differant.NEW trans were not anywhere near that price eaither.Sounds like someone just shot from the hip with no experience.10k is darn near the price of a crated new CUMMINS engine!

Where are you from in Indy? I would be interested in a PM or better yet a private email as to which dealership you have gone to.

BTW - Cummins Midstates at Holt and 70 is where I get a lot of my OEM stuff for the beast under the hood.
