Tranny Problem 48RE No OD
What could cause the 48RE in my 03 Dodge 2500 not to go into OD? It is a stock truck with 5.9HO The other symptoms included no torque converter lockup, no cruise control. I used my OTC Nemisys scanner and found the code P0700 (transmission control failure)...thank you captain obvious! Weird thing is this problem is intermittent, I haven't seen any rhyme or reason to it yet. When I look at the datastream in my scanner the trans temp sensor shows 0v and indicates -83 degrees farenheit (impossible as I live in S. Florida), now I know this could disable the OD and TCC. I checked the pinout of the trans connector to the solenoid body in the service manual and checked the resistance of the thermister and got 2200 ohms. The 5volt supply to the trans sensors is there too. The solenoid position and pressure indicators are supposed to show in my scanner too, but they all have zero values...even when the trans is working fine. I am going to try the scanner on my buddy's truck to see if the scanner reads all his trans info. There has to be some intermittent electrical problem. I would greatly appreciate any ideas. Thank you.

I don't have much experience in this area so take this with grain of salt...could the "tow/haul" feature be inadvertently activating? From what I understand, on the 48RE, tow/haul merely deactivates OD.
