Wiring harness where it crosses the front of the trans might have cut or grounded wires the ground strap rubs across the wires and cuts insulation causing no overdrive, check this out might be your problem.

Info is from friend who services Dodge Trucks.

My rights

What are my rights out of curiousity? I know lemon law is only within the first year. But in talk with a freind at Diamler there is something called breech of warranty? Something to the effect of not fixed within a reasonable time or same return 3 times. Curious to know if anyone has run up against this kind of stuff..

Take it to a dealer who knows what he is looking at would help..

If there is a TSB bulletin out on it which is the wiring harness and it has still not been replaced then that is more than likely it..

How in the world could the wiring harness be messed up on a brand new truck from another dealer? Did they hack and slash into the harness or is he just making up storys to cover for his lack of knowledge..

I truly wish the dealers would have specialists for more things that just trannys and front ends..

A good tech with an electrical background would go a long way...

electrical

with all the eletronics involved in the trans now we have to have an electrical background . front wheel drive vehicles trans and the rfe trans behind the 4.7 and the hemi are all electrical controls. the 47 and 48 re trans use electronics for govener pressure and od control. your dealer should be taking a major look at the tsb you pulled up for your 03 truck.

TSB 42

Well he called me today and said they found TSB out descibing this problem and have ordered the parts.
NEWS FLASH:
I called this guy Tuesday and told him about it so it took him until today to figure it out on his own.

The parts are in transit and have my fingers crossed.

DAY 12 without my truck

PS
I called Dodge corporate customer service today to discuss that has been going on. I swear it was just like talking to the service manager at the dealer. They could give me no suggestions other than taking it to another dealer for them to look at. If I truly didn't love my truck I'd seriously consider getting rid of it based on the non existant support from 2 dealers and Dodge customer support.

Keep us posted.
I've also had terrible experiences with the dealer so I'm dreading this already.

The one TSB didn't look like it applied to my 04. Let's see...

Update

Day 18

After getting the harness installed and ECM replaced I got a late phone call today.
"The truck now shifts in overdrive BUT now the check eng light is on and the truck is running very rough"

I'm depressed as hell at this point. Tried calling Chrysler cust service again and they are as usueless to me as the dealer is. I'll keep yas posted as long as I can talk myself off the ledge.

I feel your pain.
I was not strung along nearly so long with my fuel pump and it was getting under my skin.

My trans has been good since the episode. I'm towing 10K# 85 miles tomorrow night and I'm trusting it to do the job. Ironically I just checked my RV's roadside assistance (first year free). It expired 4-12 (not 4-30 like my wife remembered...) So if my truck dies I'm not completely sure what I'll do.

I've got two friends with FW hitches... guess I'll slip their numbers in my glove box.

22 days to see all they changed was a wiring harness. That's all the repair tickets says.
Service mgr didn't even talk to me. This was an experience that has me contemplating selling at this point but I think it's out of frustration more than anything else. Truck shifts fines but does act differently I'm assuming because the ECM was replaced. Thanks for putting up with my post over the last few weeks.

artesian -

so your issue was electronic, not mechanical? A chafed wire or corroded connector did it you think?

My ride's been fine since the incident. Towed nearly 200 miles like a champ. It did make me sign up for Good Sam ERS real quick... Every once in a while it seems like it ought to shift and it just sits at the shift point revving (or maybe I'm imagining).

btw - this reminds me of my days as a frequent flyer. I began to swear I would not fly any airline that treated me badly. Pretty soon there was no one left to fly and I was taking inconvenient routes out of spite - so I quit that and fly them all again. Same with the big three trucks - I have not heard of any that don't have issues.

I'm still looking for a NJ dealer that will do good warranty work too.
