Tranny!!!

Tranny!!!
My 48re just took a crap and with only 29000 miles on it. 2nd gear is slipping real bad, but if I am lucky and pamper it I can make it to 3rd and all is well. My dealership is really working with me, and all they ask is that I pull my Edge out before I bring it to them. Thank GOD for small miracles, that's all I can say. But the real butt kicker is that I am leaving for Iraq on monday for 15 months. I am really thinking about trading it in after I get home and get it fixed. There is no way that a tranny should be going bad this early, especially since the mose I have pulled so far is 5000lbs.

96k on my 48RE and it is working just fine with no signs of trouble (knock on wood). I've taken good care of it, I've changed the filter and oil several times, don't idle it too long in park, and kept the power stock. All that being said, the 48RE is a suspect tranny behind these torquey diesels. I think all I've done is just make sure that I didn't contribute to any possible problems. I'm sure there has been more than one person that has done "everything right" and still have pre-mature problems. It's a very complicated mechanical device and they can fail at any time without warning.
Don't think the venerable Allison trannies haven't had there share of pre-mature problems too. I recently looked at a Duramax website/forum and there was an entire section devoted to the Ally and it was one post after another about problems, several of which started out with "I thought these Allison trannies were supposed to be bullet-proof!"
Would I like to have an Allison tranny behind my Cummins? Well, yeah, but it still wouldn't be without the possibility of problems.

I was thinkin gof trading it in for an 08 or 09 when I get home from overseas. I heard the new 6 speed autos are very dependable, has anyone heard pros or cons against the new 6 speed auto?

I hate to say it but, why the heck should we have to pay for you braking your tranny via a warranty repair. You put the large tires on it and the Juice. Not me. Why don't you do go have it upgraded and rebuilt yourself.
Never mind. This is the world of today where everybody owes you something. I am getting tired of hearing of these treads. People ******* there trucks and just complaining because they tore it up. OFF RANT....
