Trac Rite LK

The useless TracRite GT has to go before I suffer any more embarrassment.
Has anyone upgraded to the LK version, and where can I purchase one??? thanks, doug

This has been discussed, ad nauseum, on these forums recently.

I'm pretty sure the TracRite GT is the only thing available for the 11.5 gear.

GM trucks use a locker but with the 10.5" gear. The DuraMax truck are now using the 11.5" gear and I bet they have the same TracRite GT.

I will say a search on the GM trucks has only mentioned the Eaton Gov Loc but I'll wager that is in reference to the smaller axles.

GM offers an Eaton in the 11.5. Many GM guys aren't too happy with it and are switching to the TracRite that we have.

What's not to be happy with??? Other than the occasional breakage (always on the undersize 8.5" axle in the 1/2 truck) I've never heard a complaint on the G80.

Switching to the TracRite. They must like getting stuck

No, No, No

The TracRite apologist will come along and tell you that:

"I drive across the swamps of Louisana and never get stuck"

" It's your tires that prevent both tires from spinning"

"you don't know how to drive"

"Read your owners manual, you're suppose to drive with the parking brake on!"

"Never stop, that differential works great as long as you don't have to stop and turn around"

Big Dave it is your driving habits, don't make that big bad 4by go beyond:

1. Wet Grass

2. Heavy Frost

3. Leaving back marks in parking lots.

SOL on the replacement, last check I made. Assume its for the 03. Best info I have is the GMs are a different version?

The only slippery slope to avoid is the one we always start down when someone says the Trac-Rite is useless or junk. Thousands of people are happy with them (including me, so I guess I'm an apologist) and one or two can't figure out how to use them, so they must be junk. I like my "junk", and I use it under all conditions. Like snow, mud, towing, four wheeling, etc. No, it's no rock climber, but it was never intended to be with all that weight and long wheelbase. Cracks me up when some people get so worked up about something they don't understand.

Ive been 4 wheeling since 1980 when I bought my first new vehicle (Jeep CJ7 )
Second new purchase 1982 Toyota pickup Installed Gleason torsens posi Front & rear
Third new purchase 1988 Chevy 4x4 posi
Forth 1996 dodge cummins 4x4 (front air locker)
Fifth 2004.5 4x4
I know all about slippery slopes. And how Limited Slips , Lockers, & Torque Bias differentials work. In my experienced opinion the GT is useless to me.

Doug,

What is it that you want it to do that it won't do?

Back up my driveway,
The smallest patch of ice on one wheel will stop me dead . The drive way is not steep by any means. It drops about a foot in 90 feet.
Seriously try backing up a snowmobile trailer. Its embarrassing. The Ford Power stroke posi will walk all over the GT.
