TPS (APPS) Techie question

TPS (APPS) Techie question
I've got a tranny TCC shifting issue....in, out, in, out, no O/D etc. Following numerous posts here and elsewhere I see a common thread pointing at the Throttle Position Sensor. Even the dealer points to it, except it's been replaced on my truck, adjusted and readjusted to no avail.
The question is: If the throttle position sensor is erratic, dead spots, etc. wouldn't it also affect the engine speed/power etc.....not just the tranny shifting? I mean, if it's what's controlling the fuel to the engine (diesel) and it's goofy, wouldn't you expect to notice it in the engine rather than the way the tranny is shifting........just curious.....I've replaced everything except the PCM and the problem has not gone away. We wanted to go camping this long weekend but can't tow the trailer this way, which is why I bought the truck (2003 Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel with automatic.
I'm getting desperate.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

replaced the brake switch
I replaced the brake switch and the problem still persists...no change. I've dropped the truck off at Chrysler again so they can reflash the PCM to stock just so I have a baseline and know that is done.
I've disconnected the alternator completely and drove it with the trailer.....same issue still there so it isn't electrical noise......
I'm just about out of ideas.

At it Again
Mine (a '99 2500) is doing this again too. I had disconnected the batteries and the TPS and put it back together and the problem seemed fixed...but this weekend while on a trip to NH from CT it did it all weekend again...
Can't decide which gear to get into and won't stay in OD. This is whether I have the cruise control on or not...anything over 40 - 45 mph where 4th gear and OD would kick in just keeps shifting back and forth...
Let me know what you've found...so far I've only found the TPS available from Dodge for $504 !!!! Nobody else seems to have them...can't cross the number or anything.

the saga continues
I haven't run it with cruise control for any length 'cause it'll kick out after a few seconds......I've attributed that to the erratic Torque converter lock-up issue.
In the course of testing/troubleshooting.....I switched O/D off and tried it. The truck shifts up thru 3rd gear without issue....lock-up engages around 40 MPH give or take and I end up at 60 MPH for the sake of argument, on a flat road, no pedal movement, no wind. Intermittently and every few seconds, the Torgue Convertor clutch will disengage......sometimes only for a split second...sometimes it'll drop out and stay out for several seconds and then re-engage.
If I left O/D engage....the same process happens (TCC drops in and out for a split second and the RPM's jump by 200-250 or so or the TCC drops out and the thing drops right down into 3rd, driving the rpm's thru the roof......it might shift back up a second later and it might stay in 3rd for a while.
The 5 star Chrysler dealer is embarassed enough now that they are going to send their tech with his toys out with me one morning next week and we are going to go for a drive. I will hopefully have an update after that.
As it stands.....the only thing not replaced is the front bumper.

Not sure either? Towing boat (5k) to the lake, no cruise control running about 70mph and after stoping and then geting back on the hwy it began cutting out. No response when on the go pedal and seemed to do it in both overdrive and out of OD. Enough fuel pressure (>5psi) so Im guessing TPS??? No check engine light on but would it throw a code? Any help would be appreciated.
