Torque converter?

Torque converter?
My truck has been surging under light throttle under 15mph while going up inclines and recently it has begun to make a popping noise when I put it in drive (this mainly happens when the truck is cold). I took a look underneath her and the u-joints look fine and there doesn't seem to be any play in the drive line. It has about 110K on it and I just had the tranny flushed about 7K ago although it did the surging before and kind of went away. I checked the fluid level and it's within the limits. I haven't had the bands adjusted but the truck still shifts fine. I don't tow that much but I did just drive across country towing a 12' uhaul trailer. My inclination is that something might be going on with the torque converter. Any thoughts? Am I on the right track?
Thanks for the help

Ok. So I was finally able to do some "research" on the forum today and I think I've got the problem pinned. It looks like I need to replace my governor solenoid and tighten my bands. The solenoid seems straightforward and I'm confident I can do that but adjusting the bands might be pushing my transmission skills. I'm going to give it a shot anyhow depending if I can get my hands on an inlbs torque wrench. Might have to wait until next payday to get this done though. I was thinking about doing the GM solenoid conversion kit from pactec as well. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like you have the shuttle shift issue figured out with the gov solenoid and transducer.
If you hear a pop, or ting, or clang when you put the truck in gear there is a bad ujoint in the rear shaft. You will have to pull the ujoint out to see if it is bad.

thanks no_6_oh_no. I pulled the rear shaft and u joints yesterday and sure enough there were no needle bearings left in the rear u joint, just dust. Put her back together and the sound is gone.
I called up PATC on Friday and they don't have any of the GM conversion kits in stock so I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the stock replacement and maybe wait for one of those new transmission pans from Goerend to end up on my doorstep.
