tons of white smoke after idling

truck runs fine. starts good all that. last weekend driving back into town i stopped twice and it idled for about 15 20 mins. went to go and it shuttered with no power and blew a cloud of white smoke out the exhuast that you could hide a small house in... did it twice. its goin to the dealer mon its only got 66,000 miles on it. all stock. shut it down right away and checked the oil for coolant looked good. have noticed a little seepage between the block and the head though. could it be a head gasket??? once it is shut down or it clears up on its own it runs fine.. 20 mpg hand calculated at 2,000rpm. any one have this happen or hear of it?

Sometimes an injector can cause the white smoke.

thought about that too..would think that it would idle a little rough or lope. maybe when it is idling it is just loading that cylinder up and the shutter is from a cylinder full of fuel..would explain why it runs when the fuel pressure comes up..

white smoke is mostly likely unspent diesel burning off in the tail pipe-
prob a stuck injector.

What was the outside temp where you were at when this happened? Do you have your manual high idle enabled?

temp was around 15 degrees f. no manual high idle, high idles at around 1,000, the whole time it was sitting it was on high idle. the more i look into it i think its gonna be an injector. truck has a little more vibration than normal at an idle if i really sit and listen and feel it. also pretty sluggish in the last couple days...

It could be an injector, and won't hurt to have them tested if you believe there is a problem with them.

Having the manual high idle enabled if you are going to be idling in those temps is a good idea to prevent incomplete combustion from occurring.

With my truck, anything less than 1300 RPM while idling, you can watch the engine temp drop. Right at or above those revs and it will stay in the normal operating range for as long as I want at as cool as it gets where I live.
