tires?going from315 to 285's
I was thinking of going from 315's to 285's, is there much differance around town and on the highway, fuel mileage wise, and power wise. I have 05 373 gears and a 6spd. and just an edge ez. I get good fuel numbers, just was wondering if I would notice any differance or benafits?

I had leveling kit and 315s for about 55k miles. I was satisfied with the 315s, both ride and perfomance.
But I decided to go back to stock height and 285s for the track.
Everything is a little better with the 285s, little better mileage, handling, stopping, etc. But I really miss the look and feel of the 315s. Probably go with full lift and 35s before it is over.

Your odo will read 4% (about 1 mpg at 21mpgs) less than reality with 285 unless you program it out. Did you consider that in your calculations?
I figure I lost about 1.5-2 mpgs when I went from the stock Michelins to the 285 BFGs. No doubt due to the roling resistance from the extra width. They sure look nice and do great in the snow...

Pizza cutters anyone?
I think our g-56 trucks are unique in their low gearing compared to autos or 5600's. The 35's additional mass and wind resistance is offset by the lower rpm's. This thing drives me nuts trying to keep it under 2,000 rpms and not get run over. I've got 285-70-17's. I'm still hoping for a 275-85-17 wide pizza cutter to come out.

I have 285s on my truck right now and although they are great tires (Nitto Dura Grapplers) I really think it would look better with 315s. I'm not taking a loss trying to swap tires now though. I have a TPMS system on my truck so I would need an E-Rated tire so I don't have to deal with lights coming on in the dash. I also don't want to deal with even poorer mileage with the larger tires.
