Throttle position sensor

Okay, I just had to do the reset of the TPS because it threw the code and would not shift up after 3rd gear, all is fine now (knock on wood).

Should I get a new TPS unit because this was the first sign of it going out???

I have a late 03 model, with the sensor under the driver side battery and the cable that goes to the linkage set-up under the black plastic cover by the intake.

This is actually the first thing that has ever gone wrong with my truck, other than the Xzillaraider needing a reflash, I feel lucky in that respect.

Thanks

My 03 auto throws the TPS code only when below 40 degrees. It never has made the shifting weird. Its been doing it for two winters. I did the rest also and it still throws the code. Kind of annoying but I have gotten used to it.

Nice rack

Let me know if you need one. I bought one for my 03 and never put it on and it won't work on the 07. It's a pretty expensive piece to buy brand new....

O.K. after checking out my APPS unit, I found that mine is the early 03 style that is all inclusive, under that black plastic piece on the driver side by the intake. It does have a cable that goes over to and under the battery to some sort of "pod".

I guess I didn't knock on wood hard enough, as it has done it again, check engine light and a code that says to high of TPS voltage.
I'm going to remove the APPS Friday and do some meter work, having the trouble shooting book, I should be able to see if the APPS is the culprit or not.

If anyone has any does or don'ts they wish to pass on, I'd be greatly appreciative.

Apps Is O.k. ???

I removed the APPS unit and read all the resistances and it seems to be good, I cleaned the connectors and reinstalled it, cleared the code, did the pedal resetting procedure and it did it again (cel,po123, won't shift pass 3rd) BUT WAIT, READ ON.

So for the heck of it I take it out for a drive, startting and stopping a few times and going through the gears and then I decide to pull over and clear the code and do a pedal reset again!

NOW it works fine! NO codes, shifts up all the way, no cel.

I ran it for awhile starting and stopping, going through all the gears about 5 times and it still works O.K.

So why did this do it in the first place, I basically did nothing to fix it?
Is this one of those anomally's, a fluke, a glitch, gremlins????

I'm going to assume that I have not seen the last of this problem, I would be very suprised if it's gone for good.

How do you reset it? I'd like to do mine but I can't stop looking at your avatar long enough to do it.

Wetspirit
disconnect batteries
key on
wait about 30 min.
key off
connect batteries
key on
slowly depress accelerator to floor, slowly release
key off

That should reset it.

final chapter

Well, once again, it did it again.

To make a long story short, I took it to the dealer and they fixed it, for free!

It was a redo of that PCM harness recall (TSB 08-031-03). Apparently my harness / connector at the PCM had a little corrosion in it, and that was the problem.

So if yours ever gives you the PO123 high voltage code or PO1596 code you may want to look at the PCM connector as a fix, even if it was replaced under a TSB/recall.

I'm still recovering from picking up my truck from the dealer, without having to pay a dime, it's a good feeling . I'm sure they'll get me next time though.

If you need an APPS send me a PM. I have one that I bought from Dodge for my truck but I never put it on because it quit acting up. I'll make you a good deal on it. Still in the box.

EDIT: Nevermind. I should have read the entire thread before posting.
