Throttle hang/continued acceleration

Folks,this throttle hang/stutter return to idle thing has me bothered.Approaching at red light last evening,floored it to make a yellow.After releasing pedal,truch still accelerates.Many have concluded that it is residual rail pressure that needs to bleed off.I do NOT feel this could/would be an acceptable design and would never be released to consumers.Lets face it,a vehicle cant continue to accelerate without pedal input without something wrong.Searching the forums reveals that many are experiencing this issue.Due to my job(in other words if I want to keep it) I am going to be out of the States for aprox 7-10 days.It appears that internet access may be limited or non existant,as I was told that updates and tech support may have to be done by phone.If you have this issue in stock form(without power adders) please subscribe to this thread.I am going to compile info gathered and press for a blanket report to the NTSB for further investigation on my return to the US.This fuel delivery system on our trucks is poorly designed and programmed with bad code and crappy injectors.Dodge needs to step up to the plate on this(and many other issues).It appears that NTSB knows of this issue.I will try to keep up on this thread if I have access,if not will pick up on return. Throttle issue

I have the same problem when it is in the single digits / -5 F outside. Below is the information from my thread - one guy stated it is the throttle position sensor, another guy replaced the APPS, he purchased it thru timbo.

Sorry for the large info, I should add a link.

See below or simply search "truck acts weird when cold"

The codes I get are P2121, P2123 and P0514

Any suggestions in what it could be or simply that I need to let the truck idle when really cold

thanks

P2121 = Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "D" Circuit Range/Performance

P2123 = Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "D" Circuit High

P0514 = Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Sorry, can't help any more than that.

You need a new throttle position sensor. 04-1/2 should be on the foot feed.

That should cure it.

why only when it is cold?

By not replacing, what is the down side

Truck is fine as long as it warms up

Eventually it will dead pedal you. For me it was right in the middle of a busy intersection. Fun stiff.

The codes you posted are APPS codes. To cure the codes you need to replace the TPS and they are spendy.

I had the same problem with my early 04 3500. I pulled my hair out trying to figure it out and initially ruled out the APPS because it only happened when cold and went back to normal once the truck warmed up. It also ran perfect all summer long without any incident. Mine gradually got worse during the cold months and would leave me on the side of the road with a dead pedal several times before finally warming up. I tried everything including disconnecting my heater grid with no luck. Not believing it would correct my problem, I replaced my APPS with one of the ones available through Timbo. I figured I would at least eliminate it as a possible cause of my problem. To my surprise it fixed my problem thus far, even when it was down to 29 degrees. The only thing I can think of is that the cold temperature causes something inside to expand or seize and thus malfunction, once warm the APPS returns to normal. I hope this helps

It's the mileage max, I have proven it on two diffrent trucks. 05 and an 06 when I remove the box the rpms run good and don't hang.

By the way that's the longest post I've ever seen!

I just installed a chip from cheapassdieselchips.com and it has 5 settings and on the 5th setting which is supposed to be performance, my truck does that at speeds over 45mph and it takes like 5 seconds for it to idle down and quit trying to go. So I use the other settings and it does not do that. I guess it is trying to burn off the extra fuel its getting...
