Terrible wheel hop!

hi guys,

wanted some input as maybe this is common.

i have a 6 speed 3500 and when im doing my warmup burnouts or just out screwing off i get a horrible wheel hop..... i mean its bad! i know ladder bars would solve this but that would bump me up a class in the local pulls i pull in.

are there any other ideas? the truck only has 60K on it so i doubt it has any mechanical problems suspension is all stock. I take off in 2nd gear and have to shift immediatly cuz it starts to bounce.

thanks
mark

You say 2nd gear.... that's 2nd low right?
Tried 3rd or 4th...low? Just a suggestion.

It is common and traction bars is the cure.

Perhaps you could use cal-tracs and not move classes? Something to investigate...

Maybe a little pricey for your situation, but I never had any problems with wheel hop using the Carli 2.65 Bilstein 9100 shocks in the rear, Carli full leaf deaver springs, and Carli airbags...third gear boosted launches and it just plants and goes!

Dual stabilizers are great... but how is that going to solve Mark's REAR wheel Hop??

Wheel hop is usually caused by axle wrap. Get a stiffer spring pack, and clamp the ends of the leaves together. Stealthy, somewhat inexpensive, and usually works. SHouldn't put you in a differant class.

Pretty much any speed shop. But, they're not that complicated. You can easily make them yourself with some angle iron and 3/8" bolts. Just put one at the end of each leaf.

Riser blocks also kill you with axle wrap. Remove some or all if you can. Of course the truck will be lower but you can still run in the same class then. $.02
