Terrible tick

I have a horrible ticking noise coming from the what sounds like top part of the engine.I think maybe its an injector, but it sounds almost metallic. It is rpm related, seems to start a little different too and seems to have a slight miss but not all the time. Any ideas, I did have a set of injector installed about 50,000kms ago but I have always wondered if they did what they said they did.

keep an eye on your oil level, if its on the rise, you have an injector cracked and needs to be taken care of pronto. I don't see any power adders in the way of increased pressure so no clue why it would happen at stock levels, but it can happen.

I would check the valve clearances also. I have seen the cup on rocker arm come off. Usually would cause valve bridge to come off from valves and pushrod to come out of rocker. Dead miss at that point. Funny thing was truck had only 5 miles on it.

ticking can also be valve seat that dropped. dont want to scare you though.

are you running any kind of fuel treatment such as power service or stanadyne? if not, put some in, and go pull something heavy, really hard.

Injector out of spec (worn) would be my guess. Just got through changing injectors on mine due to smoke puffing engine miss at 1500 RPM and terrible diesel knock. Loosened #6 line and knock went away. No oil contimimation.

I just changed the oil in mine and the engine started ticking about two days later. I noticed it once before during last summer, but it went away. I just put in an SBC DD, so I figured maybe the ticking was related to it as I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. B/c I installed the SBC, I turned the programmer off until I have the clutch broken in. I might have to turn the programmer on and see what happens. I quit running the PSP Diesel Kleen b/c Cummins told me it wasn't worth anything... Maybe it's time to run some again.

I limped it over to a diesel mechanic but he was gone on holidays. When I started it there it was knocking loud and shaking the whole truck.Limped it to work and parked it.I have ran an additive every tank full and the last 4 tanks I tried 2 stroke oil, I've change the fuel filter every 15000kms. What makes me mad is I paid good money about 2 years ago(50000kms) for new injectors and 60 horse nozzles and now they wont do anything for me and I am not 100% sure they did what they said.if somebody would buy this truck from me as is I would seriously consider it.
