Temporary Power Loss

I've been looking through the various threads here and can't seem to find anything about sudden power loss on the highway. Traveling through New York state, I noticed a strange low-level rumble, couldn't tell where the sound was coming from, thought it might be another vehicle nearby, but when I checked around, I saw I was alone. I stepped on the throttle and the engine sounded as if it were being stangled, not the usual roar, and there was virtually no acceleration, no power, thought I would have to get off the highway 'cause I was starting to hold up traffic. But before I could get to the side of the road, the power returned, as did the normal sound, and I drove the rest of the way home without incident, plenty of acceleration.

I have an '06 CTD 3500 long bed all stock except for a Jake, with 14,000 mi. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm guessing at what might be the problem here: Injectors? Turbo? Water in the fuel? Fuel filter? (Fill in the blank)?

Anyone have an idea where to start looking? Hate these intermittent problems...never seem to be there when you take them to the dealer...

Anyway, thanks to anyone who might have an idea.

Maybe somthing with the fuel feed. Filter or maybe the lift pump. Mine just went through its 1st one. Ive never heard of one going @ 14K but you never know. Go with the filter then I would look at that pump.

On my 03 I went 10,000 miles on my first fuel filter and had to change it due to lack of power. My air filter didn't last much longer than that. Start with those two items....

Ditto - check your fuel and air filters, don't forget to drain for water in your filter housing.
