Temp guage req'd for manual trans?

Is there any need for a temp guage on the manual transmission? I assume it's for monitoring the temps on the automatics, just wondering if I'm missing something...

You can, but I don't think it's necessary. Might be nice to have if towing heavy all the time.

I had gauges on 2 manuals and there's not much to see cuz they don't vary so wildly like an auto. About 225 tops with a 4500 and my 5600. Craig

The temp gauge I installed for the Getrag on my 1st Gen is probably th only thing that saved it. After reading up and getting smart on all the G360 issues I decided to do a little investigation, starting with a temp gauge. This was on a low-mileage (60k at the time) unit with no problems noted. Sure enough, driving unloaded in 5th gear in hot weather it was running up to 230 degrees in just a 20 minute jaunt up the highway. Apparently it was one of the ones that came shimmed too tight from the factory. Had it been worked hard towing before some mods, it probably would have self-destructed in a smokey mess of fried bearings.

Necessary? Probably not. But ya never know....

You can say the same about a diff temp gauge; probably not necessary.

But, rather than letting something go to failure, i prefer to watch the temp every once in a while.

That's why I have gauges for the transmission, front diff, and rear diff.

IMHO.. spend the money on some aux coolers, like the FAST coolers for the tranny and a Mag-Hytec for the diff.... They will run plenty cool and the money is better spent.

TRANS-COOL is a much better design than the FAST cooler due to internal fins and larger cooling surface. Also it is cast and very veavy. I know the guy who makes these for Geno's and it is of good quality. http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo....er=TRANSCOOL_2

Yeah its a little better design, wasn't around when I got my FAST, but honestly they are both overkill... And the TRANS-COOL is about double the money..
