Thank You,
Ron

updating to include somethings 1/5/2006

I want this thread to be informative.
Please, Please, just state if you have had a failure or not. If you did could you please give a brief run down.

I do not want this to turn into a; I know of guy who knows of a guy who had a friend type thread. I would like actual members who can speak for themselves to respond. I don't need someone digging up posts from a thousand different websites only to find out that the person later on in some other thread states the problem was something else.

I'd prefer to hear about any 3rd gen pump with an in tank lift pump failure. An in tank pump is an in tank pump as far as I am concerned.

Me, too. Any pump in the tank or retrofitted into the tank. I still have the filter-mounted pump on mine.

Maybe (and I said maybe) a retrofit pump that has failed was human error (mis diag, poor install, not actually the lift pump)

Should read any in tank pump that is from the factory has failed.
Take some of the human element out of it.

I'd bet few have as compared to the engine-mounted type. Does anyone have pix or know a non-mopar part number for the in-tank pump itself?

yeah... must have been the one outside of the six sigma manufacturing tolerances.

It couldn't be a design issue...

Some comments on the in tank pumps. $391 as a kit from the dealer if not on warranty.

I just gotta comment on this in tank pump thread. Just spent two days with my son working on his 1988 GTI. He/we didn't have a shop manual so worked by trial and error method. Replaced fuel pump and filter made by BOSCH. No go? Replace accumulator also bosch. These three parts are boxed together just ahead of the passenger rear tire bolted to the belly pan. Now I'm searching all over why it won't run. My boy whose 20 and bigger than me is getting ****** off and looking mad as I have ever seen him. Calm him down and told him sorry son you need a foreign mechanic on this one. Long story short this german pocket rocket also has IN TANK PUMP!!!. Way more complicated fuel supply system than my diesel. In the past I have to admit I did own a Dodge mini van when my kids were babies. I replaced two in tank pumps on that van. Could always figure it out though, when the pump was going down/no start, take a hockey stick and bang the bottom of the tank. If she fired up I replaced the in tank pump. I'm so glad I did the full fass install
