I am using the Valvoline oil as recommended by the manufacturer, except I do my changes at 3500 miles. Almost all of the 06 owners seem to be complaining about how quick the oil becomes sooty.

Just in case those free range fed, non-genetically modified dinosaurs happened to become extinct due to a previous civilizations environmental mistakes, 'cause you don't know about how the plants they ate might have been modified to become undigestable proteins greater than 2-microns.

Seriously, I'm adding an oil bypass filtration system to cover all the bases. Taking the oil down to 2-microns of clean means less abrasives in the lubrication. After all, it is the abrasives that cause ring failures, seat failures, etc.

I've had an Oilguard since 2000, when they had a 1/2 price sale. Otherwise I'd have gotten a TP bypass to save some $$$. I have put as much as 25k miles on syn oil, without a bypass element change and the oil analysis was still good and the soot level stayed WAY low. I started checking pressure drop across the fullflow filter to try to come up with a change plan for it. A new fullflow has about 1.5 psi DP and it only went up to 2.5 psi DP, at 10k miles. I will go 15k, next time and check it then. A bypass is a win/win/win deal. What you spend on a bypass pays back in reduction of fullflow filters, you clean the oil much better and get longer oil life. If you use a bypass to it's full advantage it more than pays for itself, especially with syn oil. A TP bypass works great but the rolls plug up faster - they don't have much face area. Craig
