Surging

Surging
I have a 2005 2500 with only a AFE stage II intake. I had injectors replaced in August 2012 and then a engine rebuild with resleve of the cylinders. About 2 weeks ago I noticed when I pulled up to a stop sign the truck would surge and require more brake. When i let off the brake it would jump the RPM's up from 750ish to 1100-1500. I replaced the FCA and the cascade overflow valve (which is what most all the research suggested). I am at the end of my rope with this and need some help. Thanks in advance. JP

The type of surging that you describe is usually cp3 related. Whether the cascade valve or FCA (as you have addressed) or the electrical input to the FCA. Programming can be a source of this as well.
Suggest checking the FCA plug and wires for defect and continuity. If ok, a ECM reflash from the dealer.
If all that doesn't cure, then see if you can source a known good cp3 to swap out and try.
Good luck!

Replaced the fan clutch saturday and low and behold it died on the while in town today. I was able to stop the fan with my hand????!!!!!! I also replaced the fuel rail with a new pressure relief valve. It did not remedy my problem. I will call the dealer and see what It involves reflashing my computer. I am really not liking my dodge at this point. JP

Could this be an APPs issue? My truck when APPs failed would cause truck to Surge/felt like I was flooring it. then go limp for a few seconds. Did this several times and I searched around and replaced my APs and problem has never returned. Search around for TIMBO APPs replacement. When I was searching around for my issue found plenty of FCA?s or APPs?s.. so some issues are common to either of these.

Did think about the apps maybe being an issue, but could not really find that much info for the 2005.5 (found out the hard way that dodge made a couple of changes half way thru the year). On another note I figured out my fan clutch issue (it really helps to have it plugged in correctly0. JP

I had my engine rebuilt recently and the mechanic didn't run the wires off my fan clutch properly so the fan cut them into. I noticed the next day and returned to have the mechanic splice the wires back together. My truck would run ok at times but I was having issues with the engine surging and the transmission would get hung in 1st gear sometimes at redlights/stop signs until I shut the engine off and restarted. I noticed the coolant temp was running a bit higher than normal ( in the 210-215 range) so I took the truck back to the mechanic and had him double check the fan wires with a multimeter and he found a problem with one of the wires being broke inside the insulation. He replaced the fan clutch 2 weeks ago and it hasn't surged nor have I had the issue with the transmission getting hung in 1st gear. Truck runs anywhere from 195 to 205 without a load on it. I have to take my tractor in for some service work next week so we will see how it does with a load on it. Oh yea and I had 2 soft codes I can't remember the numbers but one was for fan overspeed and the other was for the fuel rail pressure sensor. All is good now.
