Sudden drop to Idle!!!

2002 2500/auto CDI 80,000 miles. Few months ago pulling a heavy toy hauler load up a hill everthing going ok and all of a sudden engine drops off to idle. Panic !! started rapidly pumping the throttle pedal and then FINALLY something[?] kicked back in and had power again. Now a week ago; no load, happliy going down the freeway; in the fast; of course heavy traffic;going ten over the speed limit like everybody else and wham[!] same thing happens. Lucked out big time and was able to literally coast over to the side of the road at idle. Tried pumping the throttle pedal again and same thing, finally started acting normal again. Anybody got an idea whats going on?? Thanks a head of time--

I think you posted in the wrong section if you have an 02,but to answer your question, you more than likely have a what is called dead pedal and it is usually your vp pump on its way out.I have seen a map sensor cause it once but its more than likely your vp.Check for any codes and see if it points you in the right direction
