stupid question??

I'm trying to find out what a sound is that i'm hearing from the engine while on the highway.

ok.
It is cold here... my rad is blocked and while driving on the highway, I periodically hear a loud low-pitched whine from under the hood. It lasts about 30 seconds then goes away. is this the fan? should I pull the cardboard while on the highway? my temp guage isn't very high...

also, there are 3 heat exchangers (rads) at the front of the truck.... I don't know which is which and which one I should be restricting air to (for quicker warm-up). Advice?

this is probably a simple question but one I don't know the answer to..

thanks,
J.

Air Flow

Most likely it's your fan, although I've never heard mine over the exhaust I'm sure it's worked a time or two

Your an 03 but it should be similar to mine. On mine the first heat exchanger is the Condenser unit for the AC. This has a lot of small fins. Then behind that is a transmission cooler, and a power steering cooler. These are both smaller units and tuck behind. Then you have your intercooler. Has a big tube on both sides. That's number 3. Then you have your radiator. This is the one you want to keep heat it.

I made my own cover outa some Sythetic Marine Vynal for seats and all and cover the whole front end of my truck. The temp comes up faster and stays right at 190 much easier, before it would drop come up, drop come up. I cut a 14x14" (196 Square inches) square in this and made flaps. I have 2 flaps opena nd 2 closed so I really only have 98 Square inches open and this is plenty. You do need some air flow to let the fan turn and not cavitate it to say, cause if it dosn't pull air it'll try to pull it from somewhere else. I gota get a picture of mine to show everybody, only cost me 7 dollars. problably dosn't look as good as the mopar (although it looks pretty good, my stiching is off, but hey I have no clue how to use the sewing machine) but it works great.

simply put the cooler you want to cover is the last one before the fan. I was also thinking of this and thaught a piece of plexiglas fastened to the front of it would heat up the motor but let my tranny cooler still cool off. My tranny still stays warm all winter about 150*
