Stripped Transmission Pan Bolt?

I recently put an ATS oversized Pan on my 47RE transmission (early 2003 model 2500). ATS supplies hex bolts with their pan because there’s no room for the head on the stock bolts…they also supply a “cardboard” type gasket which I also used to replace the original. I put in the bolts as recommended and torqued them up to 13 ft lbs.

After leaving the truck sit a couple of days I noticed a few drips of transmission fluid under the truck so I torqued the bolts to 15 ft lbs except one bolt which would not torque….it just turns. This is the middle bolt on the driver side (the transmission lines run beside it) I have not tried to back it out or to tighten it up a lot. ATS might have given me the wrong size bolt but I doubt it. I expect it is stripped.

There is still a very small leak and I am not sure what to do about it.

Would it do any good to rethread it with the same size thread? I doubt it but then I don’t know.

Would it be easy to tap it out to the next larger size without drilling it out?

What about using Heli-coils? Can these be torqued as needed?

I would really like to hear from those of you who have some experience with this type of problem. I could leave it alone and just keep adding fluid, because its not leaking much, but I would really like to fix it.

When I picked my truck up from my DTT trans builder he told me he had to put Heli coils in 2 holes. He also suggested I try to get some next size longer bolts for the next time I drop the pan. My pan is an PML deep and he said the bolts they provide are Ok for a thin cork gasket , but not quite long enough for the thicker OEM reusable gasket.

A helicoil is the only repair that will work right.
