Stratapore pressue
Has anyone looked at oil pressure before and after installing a Fleetguard Statapore filter? Just curious....
The local CTD parts guy explained the difference as follows: The regular filter can be used with regular or synthetic oils. And, they filter to 25u.
The Stratapore filter can only be used with synthetic oils, because the synthetics are thinner (lower pour point when cold). And they filter to 10u.
TIA

Never heard that explanation about the Stratapore filter before. Since I don't have a "real oil pressure gauge" on my truck - only Dodge's idiot needle pointer with the variable computer simulated pressure readout it would be pointless for me to do a controlled comparison of filters.
However, I once bought both Valvoline PB 15/40 dino and the Stratapore filter at the same time at Cummins Rocky Mtn. I would think they would have said something if that were the case. Even if the Stratapore were to not flow enough when extremely cold when using 15/40 dino oil, there is always the bypass valve that would kick in and maintain flow until warmed.
I can't imagine that Fleetguard would design a filter that could only be used with Synthetic oil. Sounds like an urban myth or an attempt to sell you synthetic oil.

Fleetguard Stratopore
Direct off of Fleetguards website Stratopore info:
Lower Filter Restriction: Higher Performance
Its unique layering capabilities also allow StrataPore™ to provide nearly 50% reduction of filter restriction during cold start. With traditional media, pore size must be reduced, increasing the pressure required to force oil through the media. The smaller range in StrataPore™ media results in more repeatable, controllable filtration performance.
It makes no reference to the type of oil used and is an "approved" Cummins filter Where Cummins recomends Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40
So I say it is ok with conventional oils.

I have been running Fleetguard Stratapore from the get go. My truck had the Mopar 15/40 oil at first and I switched to Shell Rotella T 15/40 at 15,000 miles and haven't had a problem. 40K now. Oil changed every 5k.

I have always seen a slight increase in oil pressure. when I change my oil & filter (when I had a TRUE gauge). That is one way I could tell it was time to change the oil. When it gets really thin and it flows very easy creating less pressure to push it along. Once the oil is changed (I change filter each time), it would be a little harder to push the good stuff through the motor causing higher pressure.
At least that is my way of thinking of it.
