All this chatter about air boxes and filters. Cut to the chase and get down to the science. What is the silicone count on on a used oil sample? On mine the stock filter and box was 2 ppm for three years. For the last three years my AFE stage II PG7 intake, results are still 2ppm silicone. I submit a used oil sample with about 10k every spring. I change my AFE PG7 filter every six months and clean the pre-filter every month. So documented results of no change! I am not dusting my engine with this setup. But the big question is how do you service a stock or aftermarket filter. Do run a pre-filter? How do you clean and oil it or is it a dry filter. Now what of the benefits? Turbo noise, better filtration, increased air flow, decreased or increased IAT temps. With a 2nd or 3rd gen you better pay close attention to intake temperature for for maximum fueling efficiency. Cooler air does allow for more fuel which we all want. But for a stock or mild bombed truck there is no benefit to airbox mods.
