steering gear box

Hey, I have been reading some posts on here and I seen something about using a 2010 gear box to replace my old one on a 2005 3/4 ton. Has anyone done this to their truck and does it bolt right in? If you have how is it working for you?

The new Mopar steering box is a HUGE improvemnt on the stock box on our 3rd gen trucks. The sector shaft itself on the new box is about the diameter of what the nut that holds the Pitman arm is on the old boxes.

The part# for the new box is #68170214AA and actually supersedes the old part#.

My 2005 is going to have the new box AND the new upgraded power steering pump kit replaced under the extended warranty that I bought with the truck. The steering box, full retail is, about $700 and the PS pump, including the required bracket and new reservoir, is (hope you are sitting down!!) $1295 at full dealership prices, though you can find it at discount mopar internet sites for about 25% less.

That being said, you don't NEED to change to the upgrade PS pump kit when changing to the uograd steering box, but since mine was leaking and under warranty, the dealer is doing it all.

Everyone who has installed the new steering boxes is amazed and pleased how robust they are built. IIRC, the new box is off a C/C 5500!!
I can update once the new parts are on, but that is a couple weeks off.

Ok Borgeson parts on and I like big time. I can steer with just my pinky if I want. The shaft is a monster. It goes from steering wheel to gear box no extra ujoint in the middle like oem, which really make for tight steering. Turning is effortless pinky turn. So parts and labor because I wasn't going to do the work was $1100

I just did this update to mine. Bolts right up and does, most certainly improve the steering wander problem. My only issue, was with my BD steering box brace. It won't fit with the new larger gear. I contacted BD and they informed me that I would have to get a completely new steering box support. I did go ahead and re-install the brace without the bearing. It at least gives me an extra cross member at the front of the frame rails. I'll try it for a while. If I feel the need, I'll just get another support that will work with the new steering box. My old box had a bunch of play in it.
