starting problem...please help!

so my engine turns over i would say 5-7 times before it fires...it seems like this is a lot of cranking before it fires. once it starts it runs like a top.

any ideas what the problem could be?

One word... Injectors
Do a search on long crank.

If it idle really rough or the oil level is rising, you got bad injector(s). Might be this instead.https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=81936

it seems to be 100% normal besides the starting. it seems to start harder when the engine is warm

injectors....I agree.

mine had a cold start issue, but once it started, it was perfect....have em flow tested to be sure.

I had to get 6 new ones. now I am paranoid every time it takes more than 2seconds to start.

Have the injectors ever been dealt with?

that i do not know. the guy i bought it form told me that he took it in because of it not starting, they replaced the batteries, checked the injectors and the lift pump? and the batteries solved the problem of it not starting. but this whole turning over almost a half a dozen times before it fires kinda scares me

Did you search the Long crank thread? There is a lot of useful info in that thread. It covers other possible problems. There are a few things that can and do cause slow starts and that thread covers most of them.
Check it out. by the way, if you do need injectors think F1!
Good luck,
Topper
