Starter contacts 3rd gen
Are the starters still an issue with the CTD or is this a 2nd/1st gen thing? Bored today and cruising ebay I see starter contacts for sale for up to '03 trucks. Info appreciated.

I don't think starter contacts have ever been what you can call an "issue". Starter contacts wear out. I replaced mine after 170K miles on them. I don't call that an "issue", I call that a well engineered replaceable electrical component.

I agree, it is more of a part that wears out, and I didn't mean to imply that it was some sort of defect.
My understanding is it is one of those things you want to be aware of, though, and replace before they stick.

...so, does this happen with third gen or no? For the potential hassles of getting stuck and the damage I'd consider replacing them pro-actively IF it was known to happen. But it's not like I'd inspect them. If I ever pulled a starter apart I'd have the parts in hand and would replace them - worn or not.
now I'm curious. Guess we'll learn more as more third gens get miles on them and trends develop.
