Someone with a 2003 305hp engine, auto tranny (48RE) please chime in...
I'm in need of a VIN number to give my parts counter guy so he can help me find some parts for my cummins swap.
I've got a 305hp engine (build date of july 2003) with an auto tranny (48RE) that is going into a Ford Excursion so I don't have a Dodge VIN number to reference when shopping for parts.
Can anyone with an 03 truck 305hp, 48RE auto tranny, help me out?
Thanks a bunch...

why do you need a vin for parts? you should be able to tell him the year and the fact that it's a 305 hp motor and get what you need. i think july of 03 build date motors are acually considered 04 aren't they?

I can't find the full service manual online including the wiring for a 2003 to see if it matches.
I agree that a competent parts guy shouldn't need the VIN, however my local guy doesn't have a clue. He is always wanting to know the VIN???
Also, the #'s off the engine work great getting parts from cummins, but from dodge it doesn't help any...
I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow, thought it would be great to bring a VIN along with me in case that is his only way to figure it out. I checked ebay, but at the moment there are only 04 HO's on there, no 03's...

Have you looked at autotrader.com? There are usually VIN's on there, and you can search the whole country. If they dont specify 305/555, you should be able to tell by the vin, a C in the 8th or 9th place i think would specify HO.

If all you need is engine parts then your engine serial number is the most important number. A CPL is good for part numbers for your turbo, cam, head, pistons, injectors, pump, and timing.
I may have a wiring diagram for an ISB, but I'm pretty sure its just a Cummins wiring diagram which I think is a little differant than what is in the Dodges.
