Single vs. triple torque converter

So rebuild it is. Now the shop i'm going to is recommending a single disc billet converter as opposed to a triple. My trailer weighs 4500lbs empty, all day every day, stop and go, up hills, in and outta the dump, 4wd in a blizzard 25-30 times per winter to the hill (w/o trailer). Average weight loaded is about 9000lbs. The odd time i'll get a 10-12000lb load. (including trailer). I have a stage 2 intake, manifold, 5" straight pipe, no programmer of any kind and I never ever plan on getting one. Other than the odd ricer at a red light, I don't race either.

So whaddya think? Is a billet single gonna cut it?

i have a good friend that has a 750hp sled puller with a billet single and ZERO slippage.

you are basically stock so why go to a triple and you are not drag racing looking for 1/10's of seconds. a tripple is hard on shafts when it locks up also.

Actually I have a triple in there now, or so i've been told... i'm getting more and more positive feedback about singles based on my application so i'm gonna go for it I think.

The last corner cutter who rebuilt my tranny told me he gave me a triple. If that thing turns out to be a single... he's getting it back in an unfriendly way.

Thanks for the feedback!

Single will suit your application fine. As already said a triple would be more for big power.

Well im gonna offer the dissenting view. Why not get the triple?

I had to decide what I wanted too...between a single/triple. My trans man even tried to talk me into getting the single....but after speaking with Tim Barber.......He was convinced that the DTT triple was the best he had ever driven. He has had plenty of both (singles and triples) and builds transmissions, and had nothing to gain either way by what I bought or what my trans builder used.

I went with the triple and couldn't be happier. It's smooth but firm.

I guess my point is.............either will work fine. But why not step up and get the triple just to have more clutch material? Im not sure the difference in costs between the 2........but I don't think it was much when I got mine.

Best of luck. IM sure you will be happy with whatever you decide.
