Simple cure for 2004 Reverse Honk...

On the my 2004 the seat belt fastening fix does not work.

On my 2004 you can easily disable this annoying feature by opening the drivers door before you are ready to back up and tranny in Park.

1. Open the drivers door.

2 Take a small screwdriver or piece of wood etc and push the latch on the door shut, ( push towards the outside of the door), it will click in the shut position and the door AJAR lamp on the dash will go out.

3. Once the lamp goes out the CPU will not beep the horn as it thinks the door is closed with the latch engaged with the striker.

4.When you are finished with the back up driving task, go to PARK and just pull on the inside door handle and the latch will go to the door open position.

5.Close the door and drive off.

6. If you want to disable this feature permanently, remove the inside door
plastic, only about 5 screws and the handle, on the connector C304 that carries the wiring to the latch mechanism, pull out the Violet wire going to C304's Pin #1, this will open the path to ground for the Door Ajar signal
and hence the CPU will see the door always in the closed position.

i can't understand why they put that feature on in the first place, i have been driving for over 50 years and never had a door come open while driving..... if it did, i most certainly wouldn't need a chime to tell me

Why not just short the two wires together for the driverside seat belt latch?

Just open the door, take your finger and push the doors latch two clicks, you will see the door ajar lamp go out, once thats out the horn will not beep.

Your truck is the same as mine, hooking the seat belt will not put the door ajar light out.

When you are finished backing up, pull the door handle, the latch will open and then close the door, everything is back to normal.

If you dont change the wiring, when you pull the door handle everything is back to normal. I never thought of looking to see if the interior light goes on and off when the latch is jimmied...

Th reason they put it on is because people would leace their truck running wile parked on a hill and go to get out and some times the truck will jump out of park and in to rev. so this is why the horn will start to !!!!

I just checked on mine to make sure and the interior lights will go off(after the time delay runs out) when you jimmy the door latch.

If you want them on when you are backing up without the horn blasting away you just turn them on with the dome switch beside the headlight lamp.

When you close the door latch the interior lights will not come on when the door is open.

If you modified the wiring to keep the horn quiet you would not get the interior lights to come on when you open the drivers door at night. The other doors will light the interior lights.

If you are testing this feature remember about the time delay feature of the interior lights or you might come to some false conclusions.

It must have been a quick engineering fix instead of fixing why they jumped out of Park in the first place, or maybe the operator didnt put it fully in the Park position....
