Question Silencer ring worth pullig.

First of all id like to introduce myself as a new comer. Being new to the diesel world I'am finding these forums unbeleivably helpfull. My question is " Is it worth while to pull the silencer ring if iam already running an AFE stage 2 intake with tube. Will it whistle any louder than now? Thanks in advance guys!!

It's definately louder, and you can hear it spooling up from about 2~3 PSI. The tone is a little different though, almost eery and not quite so clean sounding. I enjoy it, and it gets some looks.

If you want maximum noise you will have to remove the baffles from the intake tube also.

I noticed a decent change when I did mine, but really, I am not sure I'd do it again... mine was a PITA.

In my opinion not worth it, if all it does is make more noise. Also you never know, if you have a turbo failure and they notice the ring is gone, they could void your warranty.

Like I said, this is my opinion!!!!

Mine was out for over a year....just put it back in a few weeks ago , for the heck of it , and it`s quieter now. I never really heard the whistle much more , just more of a sucking noise. I like it better with it in.

I pulled mine 2 weeks ago at the same time I put an Airaid deal on it.

It was very easy to do, but I was surprised that it wasn't noisier...based on comments from this forum,
I was expecting something between a 747 jet and a refs whistle

I'd say go for it, but don't mangle the parts in case you want to reinstall them.

Behind the silencer there are some oblong pieces filled in around the opening of the turbo. I have noticed on some after market turbos that they are open. I dont know how to describe them but there is i think 4 of them. Would it help to cut them out on the stock turbo to increase air flow. Or would it hurt the performance?

I pulled mine when I got the truck home after buying it, but never noticed a difference. I did still have the stock intake. I put a BHAF on and didn't notice much difference either. Only time I noticed a lot of charger noise was when I put my AEM on.

I sure do think it's funny all the sigs with "silencer ring MIA"....... Hilarious....I mean is that really a "sigable" mod?
