Silencer Ring?

I've heard alot about guys pulling off their silencer rings off their turbos. I kind of like that turbo sound so i decided to go for it. I took my intake tube off and didn't see what was desrcibed in past forums. I didnt see any plastic/rubber rings. Does anyone have a picture they could show me or any instructions on how to find this silencer ring? this is on a 2004.5 high output engine.

don't forget the intake tube baffle while you're in there!

The silenser ring sits rite in front of the turbo blades. There is a snap ring holding it in. The baffles are in the intake tube.

inside the intake tube. it looks like an "X" inside the tube. you can remove this baffle and it is supposed to make more noise. i haven't done mine and don't plan on it. i will probably by an afe torque tube for more noise.

To get it out, you have to pry the top off with a screw driver... you may be a lil on edge to do it because of the sound it makes, but it's glued on so it's just that seperating. Just pry the top off, pull the baffles out and then superglue the top back on.

I've got some pix in my gallery I'm putting in now... so once they're approved, they'll be there for you to see.

Oh, and I also removed the plastic insert in the lower elbow into the Turbo.

The super glue is for if you remove the baffles out of the stock torque tube... it's held together with some kind of glue and it doesn't snap into place like other things might. So once it's pried apart and the baffles slide out, the tube needs to be glued together.

As for the ring... it's even easier to put it in. Just remember to grab two really small flatheads to take it out. Almost as small as jewelers, but not that small since those are too weak. As you can see by the pic of the ring above, pry one screwdiver under the lip at one end of the ring and pry it up just enough to stick the other screwdriver under it. Then pry that up and stick the first in and work it around... I don't think you even need to work it but the first 1/4 of it and at around the halfway point, you can just pull it out.

Oh yea, forgot to actually answer your question... no need to glue the ring in, it just slides right in. lol

another cheap alternative to gutting your stock intake baffles is to make a torque tube... 2x 90° 4" rubber elbows and a section of 4" exhaust tubing and 4x 4" clamps...

I had a peice of 5" left over from my exhaust kit. Cut it down to 8" and you've got a homemade torque tube. For CHEAP!!! Why pay $90 for an 8" piece of pipe???

Silencer ring

The silencer ring looks almost like a funnel to funnel air into the impeller. Looks like removing it would be of harm to air flow?
