Shuddering upon take-off
I just bought my MegaCab and it has a slight shudder to it when you accelerate from a dead stop. It feels like a carrier bearing. The weird thing is I drove a 2006 3500 MegaCab while shopping that did the same thing. Wait, it gets stranger. My friend has a brand new 2007 that has done it since new (2K+ miles now). What is the problem? Has/does anybody else have this problem?

What kind of a shudder? Could it be wheel hop? I have it bad in mine but mainly just when towing but its there and it can be really bad depending on what type of ground and if its wet. Although again mine is wheel hop thining about picking up a set of the GDP ladder bars but just dont have the funds for them right now.

My 06 ford 3/4 ton 4 door long bed did the same thing under load its due to the two peice driveshaft being loose in the carrier bearing. Crawl under it and it has tons of movement. My pal has an 07 QC that does it mine does not the dealer told him it couldnt be fixed nut the engineers were working on a fix. Hope this helps.

Take off shudder seems to be a normal problem on 06/07 trucks, especially Megacabs,my QC will do it a little sometimes ,but mainly only when taking off on a turn, there is alot of info on this site about it if you search for it and some suggestions for reducing it .Even puting the canopy on my box reduced mine.

The "take off shudder" is common and caused by the carrier bearing (so only LWB trucks have it). The carrier bearing needs to be spaced down a little to stop it. It's been happening since the 1st gens and you would think DC could handle correcting it by now...but I guess not.

Mine has done this since new also. Most find if you space the carrier bearing down 3/8"-1/2" it seems to solve the problem. If you don't like the spacer idea, you can use a temporary spacer to find what works, and then order a proper height bearing support from Dodge.
I attached a link from an old TSB that has the part #s and associated heights.
If your lucky this will permanently solve your problem, but a few like mine shudder very badly when towing, and the spacer does not cure that. I have decided traction bars (like the Glacier Diesel ones) are the best fix.
The best part is you will not get any help from your dealer, as this problem, as rediculous as it is, is "a characteristic of the vehicle", so Dodge considers it normal.
