Does anyone know why this is happening? Fix?
I would think the dealer could disable the "auto lock" feature. They do it with a scanner type tool and turn that feature off.

What's a belt chirp? My engine makes a chirping sound sometimes when i turn it off...is that an indication?

Belt chirping on shutdown is NORMAL for all diesel, because of the engine's high compression. It is caused by the engine stopping before the accessories, hence the belt slips and strains slightly on the pulleys.

It seems that on some of the 04s and 05s, there were either sub-standard belts used and/or some may have been installed incorrectly, and/or these engines stress these belts even more than is normal on shutdown.

For WHATEVER the reason, the clutched pulley eliminates slippage of the belt on shutdown, eliminating the chirp, and reduces stress on the belt, which cold help it live longer.

I would say that is it. I would get it done just for peice of mind. i didn't have the belt chirp it and still jumped off the pulley.

Is there a recall of some sort? Mechanical/Software? Thanks for the info!

No recall, it's a TSB. And they may or may not charge you - if you go in complaining of symptoms, they might not (at least my dealer does not).

Depends on the dealer.
