Should I be able to hear the steering pump?

I have a new 06' Mega cab 4x4 and in a parking situation I can hear the power steering pump. Is this normal or should I have it checked?

I can't imagine you being able to hear the power steering pump over the cummins. I know in my old chevy the ps fluid got a little low and it made a whining noise kinda like having timing gears instead of a timing chain.
I would check the ps fluid level. If it's okay and still makes a noise then take it to the dealer.

I would have it checked; but be prepared for the dealer to say its normal - if so, you might want to ask him to take another new truck on the lot for a spin for a "noise comparison".

Yup, first thing to do is check the fluid level. It'll whine if low....

mines doing it, and my steering box is "wet" so the dealer is replaceing it. take a look at your steering box, if it looks to be leaking a little get it replaced.
