it was $3500 rebate for GM dmax, and $5000 for the gasser 2500 HD.
my daughter had her Gasser 2500 HD lemon law'ed - so for me to even THINK about a HD; lets you know how freaking PO'ed I was this morning. spun tight real quick.
anyways, got to thinking about my kid's problems with her truck, settled me quick.
my 04 CTD kinda just chapped me with it's myriad problems.
was a P0514 , "battery circuit" whatever that is. no reason to go buy a superior vehicle like a duramax with perimeter lighting, lites on mirrors, memory seats - all the comfort & convenience of a Y2K truck,
not like our CTD's - which are "hair band" technology (straight from the 80's)
dog had a fit last nite - i am thinking maybe we had a small furry visitor that crawled up there to get warm on the block heater, did something to set the code?

Better yet, look at a Tundra. Regional sales guy at our county fair says the new one coming out in February will own the market (not sure which one though). Guess they're going to be real affordable too.

Sounds like your mind is made up that the Dodge sucks. Either that or you just had one really bad day.
Nice knowing you and see you at brokeduramax.com...

i think it was that i liked my 04 SO MUCH with the box and all the toys on it...
and it broke...
and i had to trade it for this one..and i was gonna be REALLY UPSET if this one was broke, because i could have kept the truck i REALLY liked if i wanted it to sit in my yard for another 2 weeks, or a the dealer for another week.
yeah i am cooled off....now.
got a buddy with a D'max, and he says it is about the same us, some parts break on all of them (lift pumps on CTD's) and folks pushing the limits break more.

you would need a BIG tree...
we bought it on this past friday nite in St Marys GA (Jax Florida) drove back to SC about 0230 in morning
and saturday at lunch, we had 3 kids from church in it, out running around, they were very comfortable back there.
i'd test drive one over a weekend if you were thinking on it.
the 3500 rebate and 1000 rebate (if on lot before March) is a deal,
another 1k rebate finance with chrysler.
if they have had it on the lot since march - guess what, they want it GONE!
they split the holdback with me on this one.

we got it friday, that happened on wednesday morning, and it was minor.
i don't like the floor mounted cup holder (threads on that) but Genos has a ~$30 fix for that.
there are no cupholders in rear with 3 kids (cup holders are in center rear armrest)
had a short box before, other than the length, it's awesome.
we keep seats down, and i carry my E-bay stuff back there to ship, easier than digging out of bed.
the MPG looks good too. 527 miles to first tank.

Sounds like you've come to grips with it now, and can see it's good points too. Semi-changing the subject, I've got what seems like a helluva weird cupholder layout. I have an '06 3500 SRW 4x4 quadcab, auto with the electric transfer case. I special ordered the truck with rubber floormat. What they didn't tell me is that in this case you get NO console, and NO cupholders in back. None. It has the flip out cupholders that I like ok, but I'd sure like some more storage space down there. I put my cellphone in the dashboard, and the **** thing sometimes flies out and disappears under the seats if I happen to accelerate suddenly. Not a problem in my '98-I just put it in the inside door handle, since the handle has a bottom. Can't do that with the 3rd gen trucks, and this one has no console to put it on.
The thing about the rear cupholders is weird-it's like they're there, but the floor covering has no cutouts for them. You can feel empty space beneath the floor covering where they were in any other 3rd gen quadcab I've owned, but the rubber just goes right over the top of them.
(This truck is a little unusual in other ways too-no cab clearance lights, no sliding rear window, and it has the snowplow prep package even though we live in AL. Wanted to be prepared if I ever put a battering ram front bumper on it.)

You know, I don't think they're bad at all anymore. They seem to have gotten the problems under control. Now, I hate the looks of the front end of the current chevy truck, but in terms of pulling power and mechanicals, they seem to be ok. Not as reliable or durable as a cummins of course, but a good solid second place.
