Thumbs up She must be broken in

Well, Sunday, I achieved my best fuel mileage to date BY FAR! I realize this is only one tank, so there may be SOME inaccuracy from pump to pump, I typically round to the nearest dollar after the first click for whatever that's worth.

Anyhow before this I had only seen 19.9 MPG whereas this trip from Dallas, TX to Salem, IL I got 23.1!! I thought to get anything over 18, I was doing awesome, but 23 is insane in my book

After almost twelve hours in the truck, my wife was pretty tired of seeing my you-know-what-eating-grin as the fuel gauge moved slower than it ever has. First ~200 miles we went 65 mph and the remainder were driven at exactly 70 mph - we were in no hurry, so I just let the cruise control do all the work. Pictures were taken along the way as a result of my amazement. 400 miles was a bit west of Memphis, 600 was along I-55 (cause I've been sucking fumes the ONE time I've see 600 to a tank) and 700 was because I couldn't believe the fuel light STILL wasn't on, though it came on at 701! The last pic is the fill-up for evidence.

Weather was between 50 F and 65 F and overcast. Winds were ~10-15 mph out of the South, so I'm sure they contributed some to the last third of the tank, but overall, I'm pretty comfortable bragging about 23

congrats, alot of people think these trucks won't get that kind of mileage. I have gotten as high as 24.7 but that was going 55 mph just like you, in no hurry, just seeing what kind of mileage i could get. Just think how much fuel would be saved if everyone in the U.S. would slow down 5 mph or so.

23.1? Was that mpg from the computer read out (the lie-o meter) or hand calculated from miles driven and gallons used?

KKB, the roads would be a lot safer too!

DBLR - the overhead "lie-o meter" read 28.7 mpg. 23.1 was hand calculated.

I drive 1000 miles a week, I have 85,000 miles on my truck, I get about 17mpg going 70mph and can't get any better at that speed. I have gotten 21mpg when going 55mph for a few days.

When does the truck break in?

188K on mine

in 30K miles of ownership, i have never seen better than 20 mpg hand calculated on the highway at 70 mph, nor 14 in the city.. this was on an empty truck.. IE completely clean, no bumpers rack box etc...

added the bumpers, toolbox, tank, 285 mud bfgs, side steps, and smarty sr with a 5 inch magnaflow..

mileage stays the same if i drive 65 mph highway, on the highway

but city im down to 13 in town, and at 70 im at 18 mpg at best...

FWIW 3500 srw 4x4 quad long

I am No math wizz, but his receipt says he got a total of 24 gallons? and his odometer says 724 miles? Hand calculated that is 31 MPG ? That is awesome, if true. And even if he actually used 30 or so gal's to go 724 miles. aint to shabby either... The best I ever did hand calc. was 25 MPG cruise set at 60 from Yuma AZ to Las Vegas with 37'' tires. RPM's were just under 1500.

There are two fill-ups on that one receipt. Dumb $75 limit...

25 is awesome especially given your truck!!

Overall...

Here's a bigger picture for the trip. Leg 2 included some putzing around town - maybe 50-75 miles or so.

I'm very pleased though - never thought this thing would put up these kinds of numbers.

2wd helps but those megas are heavy. Nice numbers.

My 4x4 04 with the triple nickle will return just at 20 on the highway running 70 with 315-75's and 3.73 gears.

My last trip from LA to Parker AZ not towing had me at 20.02 hand calc. using my GPS as an odometer sense my speedo is off a full 5 mph. Funny thing is now that my speedo is off because of the tires my MPG lie O meter is more accurate and that said 19.6 mpg. Close.

Coming back towing my Dads 24 food boat (6k in weight) I pulled in 13.6 in the rain. Again...excellent.

The fuel numbers amaze me. I have no tuner and no mods.
