Isnt their a thread with detailed info and pics for changing the filter and adjusting the bands in the 48re???? I am going to do it this week and need to know for sure what filter and what type of Tranny oil and how much I will need???? I realize I wont get all the old oil out but I want to change the filter......

napa filter part #1-8565 It says it's for the 47re but it fits all 47-48re transmissions.

When I did just the drain and filter mine took 6.5qts to fill back up. Buy your self a big rubbermaid tub from walmart to put under the pan when you take off the pan, that way when atf starts seeping out from the pan it will catch all of it and nothing will get on your driveway.

I used Valvoline ATF+4 it was $4.95/qt at autozone. My next fluid and filter change I will use Amsoil. You will need a torx bit to take off the filter.

 

do not adjust the bands unless you are having shifting problems. just change the oil and filter and away you go. you will need about 7 qts. put in 6qts run the truck around the block a couple times then check while neutral and top off. pan gasket is reusable. don't forget to clean magnet in pan.
