but the motor ran up with no load, and I thought it would blow,
it'll hit the governor and sit there.. it can sit there all day long and do no damage. the ecm when controling the fueling will not let the engine overspeed.

but to park from 50mph... OUCH

Park pin stop.....surprised you didn't bust the trans case. You woulda been SOL if it would have hooked into park. 2 rear wheels locked up and absolutely NO control as you slide into the intersection. Try stopping for yellow lights. Might save a life.

I know it was just a reaction but why not throw it in 1st instead of park? At least then the trans can help you slow down without such possible sever damage. Just a thought.

Agreed. I think this generally gets more people into trouble than it's worth. Try explaining this story to the cop that saw it go down. Try leaving five minutes earlier so yer not in such a big hurry. Just ribbin' ya a little. Let us all know if it stays in Park on the hill. Kinda curious.

Sounds like he is just testing the tranny out to see how strong it really is. If it can go through throwing into park twice while going 50 is must be pretty stout. Let us know if you start noticing any problems.

Throwing one into park while moving makes a terrible sound, as the parking pawl drags along instead of falling in and stopping the vehicle. Eventually, as the vehicle slows, probably to less than 5 mph, it'll fall in and jerk the vehicle to a stop. The sound is horrible, but you actually probably didn't damage anything. Ditch the mats though.

Dude, just cut the key back one click and the engine dies but you still have steering and braking. Cutting the engine and putting it in park at the same time can lock your steering wheel ....... then Ur $crewed.

It holds in park on a hill, and no signs of different shifting.
I need to roll into a new truck by Dec 30 of this year, and my dealer gave me top trade in on my last PSD which had a fried tranny, so worst case for me is I trade it in a few months early. (if it acts up)

have any of you seen the park paw? if not go to the local trans shop and ask to see one. you will not be so hard on it in the future. they are tough and regulated pretty tightly, but with the weight of a truck moving slamming into it . steel about 1/4 wide and not much more deep at the contact area. problems usually are not coming out of park easy after parking on hill.

+2 what Rammtuff said.

and deep six the mats. After 3 years my OEM mats still work great!

I wonder if fried tranny's are a common occurance.

the ECM will not let it shift into 1st above around 25 mph to protect the engine.

I personally sheared the parking pawl in my first truck (a '76 Chevy P/U). I threw it into park @ 25. You need to at least get the tranny flushed and fresh fluid in, I would bet there is quite a bit of metal in there. And I seriously doubt that park will keep holding, don't trust it!
