Runaway Truck!!!

I'm wondering how much damage I did to my truck.
I have the thick rubber floormats from Costco, and while trying to beat a yellow light the other day, I stomped on the pedal, well the turbo spools up and I'm off. I let off the pedal, but the truck keeps going, so I end up going straight through the intersection at 50 mph. I have no idea as to why its doing this, but turn the ignition off, and slam it into park. I thought it was a malfunction in the throttle electrics, but realize the pedal is jamed under the Costco rubber mat. I adjust the mat, and am back on my way. Everything seems fine with the truck.
Today, same scenario, same thing happens. I throw it in park at 50mph and turn the ignition off. Kick the mat out the door after I stopped, and was back on my way.
So, what type of damage may I have done throwing it in park at 50 mph. The tranny made a rattling noise as it slowed to a stop. Everything still seems fine.
Be cautious if you have these mats!!!

Why not put in N instead and hit the brakes?

I did put it in N the first time, but the motor ran up with no load, and I thought it would blow, so I slammed it in Park.
I didn't have alot of time to think about it.

I know what you mean by not having enough time to think. Does the rev limiter work in Neutral anyone?

yes the gov still works in Neutral, sounds awefull but if you want powersteering and brakes while getting off the road with a runaway truck, grin and bear the noise/ thoughts........ at least yu will have control. never did figure out what caused it, I have factory matts and they were not jammed under the pedle..........

If it's not a "runaway" (usually indicates the engine has found an alternate fuel source, not just a stuck throttle), the ECM should prevent damage by letting the rev limiter keep it from grenading.
The throwing it into park at 50mph would not have been my first choice.
It's likely all it did was grind the parking pawl and it's corresponding hard parts a little bit.
Does it still operate/shift normally?

Ouch!! It should be OK and I don't blame you for doing it in an Emergency situation, but I just cringe when I think of something like that.

Go park it on a hill and put it in Park. Try it facing up and facing down. If the tranny will hold the truck then you are probably OK. Be careful though because if it is holding it might be holding by a hair. Be sure and use your parking brake whenever you park from now on.

Gotta love that Monday morning quarterbacking. Sorry about your troubles. Hope everything is fine. Good news is you didn't hit anybody or anything.

Just for some piece of mind the "next" time... These motors are used in #XXX amount of applications being ran at full rpm ALL day long.... don't worry about running it full rpm especially in an emergent situation...

It still runs and shifts normal. I've got a hill behind my neighborhood that I can check to see if Park will hold.
I had a little more time to react the first time, but the second time was pretty hairy. It was one of those situations where I could care less about damage to the truck, just don't hit or hurt someone else.

I would have done the exact same thing. Hitting someone or somthing else would have cost more than a new transmission EVER would have.

I would do a few things from now on if I were you:

1. Throw those floor mats away and get ones that are fitted for your truck.

2. Use the emergency brake every time you park the truck.

3. Quit flooring it for yellow lights.
