Rough idle, white smoke, Wire looks OK?
Ok guys could someone please help me. My 2006 with 80k is blowing alot of white smoke that smells like fuel at start up and idleing very rough. once i have driven it for a few mins i can stop and it will run and idle fine. It drives fine and has good power. Ive been reading up on here and thought for sure it was the wire under the oil filter but i checked it carfully and it looked fine (wraped it in electrical tape anyways). And that didnt solve the problem... I also had a check engine light come on a few weeks ago that said "Ecm/Pcm power input signal intermittent" i cleared the code and it never came back on. I had this same problem a month or so ago and so i brought it in to the dealer and they replaced all six injectors and reflashed it. I had thought that solved the problem but now it is starting to do it again and today it was really bad...very thick white smoke and very rough idle, the longer it idles the worse it gets, and if i rev it up to over 1100 its fine. I need some ideas... could it be the fca? or what? thanks matt

It sounds like an injector problem, but they just replaced them so they should be fine, unless you have low pressure. I had an issue where the bypass was open on the rail and the pressure would only go to 7K so it would blow white smoke at start up and miss, would seem fine if you increased the RPM. I found mine by upgrading my race box to the one with the control pod, I thought the old race box was bad, the new one shows the pressure. I took it to the dealer and the installed a new rail sensor and a new relief valve.
Hope this helps/.

I also forgot to add that my truck idles down really slow, i know that cummins tend to idle down a little slow but its really bad. if you rev it up to around 2500-3000 or so in neutral then it will take 4-5 seconds to compleately idle back down. Not that i like to go around reving it up in neutral or anything but its just something i have noticed... anyone have any other ideas i really need some help. thanks

remove the vavle cover and check the wires on the top of the injectors they can vibrate loose also check the wires where they come into the valve cover they can chafe and short out

When I asked the dealer they said that it was on the edge, no problem but they changed the bypass valve and sensor. I was afraid that they would give me a hard time about the box so I just smiled and agreed.
