Rough Idle and Miss
Before I take my truck into the dealer,I wanted to ask you guys what you think the problem is.Truck has 20000 miles on it and when it is first started up in the morning when it is cold it runs rough and emits a little bit of white and black smoke.Sounds like it is missing. After it is driven for a while it runs fine but seems to have a different tone to the usual Diesel chatter.More noise overall. It never did this before and it is warm enough that the grid heaters do not work.It fires up quickly though. There is something amiss since this has never happened before. Also there is already some Diesel power additive in the tank.Any help would be appreciated!!

you are within your engine warranty, so I wouldnt worry about it too much. just make sure they get you squared away, and dont let them mess with you. I took mine in like 4 times, and they never fixed it, but they loved charging me for it (I am out of warranty). eventually I just stopped going to them and replaced the injectors myself.
oh, and yeah, I agree that its probably injector related.

I had the exact some issues...took it in, they looked at it from one end to the other and did an "flash" to the computer. Seems to have gone away. Dumped in some addative before a long trip with a trailer on back and it seems to run better than ever now. Will go back again if it returns and get them focused on the injectors...

Houndog,I have a fifth wheel that I pull very often, comes in at just over 10,000lbs.Just got back from GA. and it was running fine. All my trips with the trailer are minimum 1000 miles.Never sees stop and go driving and always gets warmed up before shutting down.Use quality fuel from a truck stop and Is checked for sediment and water monthly.Fuel filters are changed at 10,000 miles.Believe me this truck gets run.It is maintained but not babyed. It is going in tonight so they can check for cold start in the morning.I love this truck but I am a little PO'ed that I am having an issue like this.I am leaving in two weeks for a 2000 mile trip up North and do not need any headaches.I will post the conclusions as soon as I get It Back.

My 04 did the same thing with 12000 miles on it. Dodge jacked me around big time on it! I had to take it to three different dealerships before I got it fixed ! 41 Days in the shop!!!!!! All in all, it had 3 bad injectors and my mechanics said Dodge would only send them 2 at a time per vehicle and no way of testing them, so they had to swap them around several times to try to fix it. 41 days worth!!!!!!!! Finally a mechanic ordered 2 more injectors for a truck on their own lot just to get my truck fixed, Thank god. Nothing like paying $750 bucks a month for a P.O.S. that is sitting in the shop. But hopefully you will have better luck than I did. Dodges warranty is not much better than the paper its written on, when you need something fixed they screw you around until you're blue in the face!

I got the truck back from the dealer and they replaced the #6 injector.I will see how it starts tomorrow morning.Seems to be running fine.Time will tell if this is going to be a recurring problem.
