Got home from a trip today, when I pulled into the driveway I noticed the engine had a rough idle between 800 - 900 RPMs – just slightly above normal idle range. So after washing it I took it for a short run and really stepped into it a couple of times, which may have helped it very slightly, but not altogether. Except for the rough idle @ 8/9K RPM range (only), it seems to run fine.

The truck has a little over 75000 miles on it (almost all freeway miles). I never tow and I drive it fairly easy, except I will blow it out about once every 500 miles. I always average about 20.5 to 21 MPG (hand calc)… one or two MPG less in winter. I always add PS or Redline fuel conditioner to every tank. I service the truck myself every 7K miles (oil, oil and fuel filter, and usually the air filter too. Truck is all stock. I’m suspicious I may be developing an injector issue because last winter it started becoming more difficult to start when cold (20F to 30F ranges). Once in a while it will put out a little white smoke at cold start in mornings – but not all the time. Dealer did the flash for white smoke in 2006. Any ideas? Does this sound like injectors?

It idles at 9,000 RPM?! What happens when he revs it?

Maybe it's not broken in yet at 750,000 miles.

OK - 800 - 900 RPM... can anybody provide a little help? Can a problem injector(s) act up at only a specific RPM range this low, or is this something else?

 

I would start cheap... fuel filters, and run some injector treatment. What is your fuel pressure?

 

IF your not using a chip like the adrenalin or a smarty, i would think its your injectors. "madhat" has the right idea, wash some injector cleaner through it and see if that does anything.
