Brum..Brum..Brum..Brum..

I guess I should chime in here... I get the same rough idle when it's cold, and cold here in MA can just be like freezing and below. Mine happens at low and high idle both.. everything is smoothened out as soon as I hit the brake or drive.. all is good. I'll be watching this one, though I am here by a search and didn't even notice the date of the last post..

I'd be interested in a fix though.. another one of those just annoying things you put up with!

its the way all of the 3rd gen dodges act in cold weather, my old one(03) my 05 and my dads 06, they all sound funny on high idle when i put it on high idle or when i run into the store and leave my truck running and its like 32 or less it will after a minute or so automatically high idle and thats even with the truck up to full operating temp... everyone needs to relax its just what they do

oh and also if you notice if your ever in a hurry and you jump in the truck when its cold and start to take off it will run kinda funny until you hit 20mph thats when the grid heater will shut off then your lights will quit dimming and volts will go back to 14v, otherwise if you let it idle before your drive it i think the grid heater shuts off after 2 or 3 minutes... somthin like that lol

Mines done it since day one, my work truck (international semi) does the same thing. I really think it has something to do with the FCA, I remember modding the FCA and not getting it polished perfectly and it idled the same way. So I think what is nappening is the cold fuel is so thick that is allows the FCA to hang up alittle ramping the fuel pressure up and down making the engine surge.

I just chalk it up to being a diesel, since most of them are "angury" when starting up in the cold weather...

It's the standard warmup high idle, nothing to worry about.
Does it sound like this ?

Its normal? Its the grid heater? Its the cold weather?

Nay. Nay. and Nay.

My 05 from new never did it, until just over a yr ago, shortly after installing the predator and puck. Long story short, 6 new injectors, originals were badly carboned up! Excessive idling maybe, but not my truck very little idle time, programmer that adds too much fuel, most likely. Either too much fuel or too much idle time. Betcha those that are experiencing the "lope" ( sounds like a gasser with a racing cam? ) if they pulled a few injectors just might see carbon build up on the tips/nozzels. Mine did the same lope at idle when first started up, would settle out as I drove it, soon as I parked it and let it idle to cool the turbo 3-5 mins she'd start loping.

Its been a steady 5 weeks of -20 to -40deg F start truck in morning idle for a few minutes, no lope! I can guarentee the grid is cycling as well. Last two winters since new injectors no more lope! And I tossed the predator and puck.

For those that think its normal, good luck! Mine started out with a small lope was told its normal, dealership said nothing wrong, no CELs truck had power ect ect. It got worse. Do yourselves a favor pull a copule of injectors check em out!

Just like that only mine is much loader with the 5" exhaust . No programmer on mine so I don't think that is the issue.

Only when the temp is below 20 degrees or so... After I have warmed up and then left to idle for 2 minutes or so. Oh well, guess it is normal

there has been alot of these problems linked to a short in the wiring by the ac compessor. from what i've read it is a issue or the wiring rubbing on one of the freon lines on the back of the compressor. some trucks have been repaired but the best way to find out is by looking at the wiring harness there to see if there is any of the convuluted tubing wrapped around it.. if there isn't then it might have rubbed a hole in the insulation on the wiring.

I have the same issue in my truck. Not sure if it's an issue or not. Warm or cold, if the truck goes into high idle it starts to "lope". Going to be following this one.
