Question Ride Height

The Gen-3 I just bought is substantially higher than my Gen-1 (8 in). Based on pictures I assume it's because of being 4x4 vs 4x2 on the gen-1. Other trucks with 4x4 including my neighbor's dakota don't look any higher than the 4x2 versions. Why is the ram so much higher ? Is it a Chrysler macho thing ?

Well, for one, Dodge still uses a straight axle on the front, bless them for that. So if you look under you see the top of the axle not far off the Cummins oil pan. And the top of the engine is not far off the hood. So I think it just results in a higher truck. The competition is either independent front and or V8 which is shorter height engine than Cummins 6.

I had a 2wd Gen2 and now this 4wd Gen3 and notice same height as you mention. Big difference between sliding on to the seat and climbing up in the cab!!!

It's how a 4wd should stand

When I had a Chevy that's all the talk was at the water cooler "sure wish the Chevys sat like Dodges and I could put some bigger tires on it without having to put on a lift".

...the grass is always greener...

Oh, do check on top of the coils and see if it has a spacer kit. It took me a whole year to figure that one out. Up to that point we were surprised that my 3rd gen 2500 4wd sat taller than Dad's 2nd gen 2500 4wd.

Heck, my 2nd gen 1500 gaser sat higher than my cousin's 2500 gmc. He was always jealous that I have the bigger truck even though his was the heavy duty. I love the way the dodge sits compared to the other brands. I drive a truck not a caddy, if I wanted a car/truck that sat low I'd buy an el camino.
