Well I have been in my garage tinkering with these lights. I checked all harnesses. I have taken both lights apart and cleaned all terminals and bulbs and put dielectric grease in all connections and disconnected the trailer tow 7 way for now. I will see if it happens again if not I will reconnect the 7 way and see if it happens again. I will try to do process of elimination I guess. Who knows maybe I fixed it. Pretty frustrated since it comes and goes intermediate. Kind of like some of my old girlfriends.

If it comes back, start with the connectors . Often intermittent issues are caused by broken wires at the connectors, or a poor/corroded wire at the crimp
They will have continuity till they get jiggled just right, then won't unroll jiggled again
Real pita to track down

Well so far far I'm still in the testing phase. I unhooked the new 7 way and curt harness and plugged stock back in so I basically deleted all the new wiring harness and 7 way. Everything seems to work fine now. I did however notice my stock 7 way is cracked so I ordered a new one and just put that in today. I hooked the new wiring harness and 7 way in the bed an I will test out though the week. So I guess we will see. If I'm still having problems it has to be in the new 7 way or harness because When it's stock it's fine. We will see with the new bumper 7 way if that changes anything.

Maybe someone can figure out my reverse light problem! If I leave my truck in reverse (manual trans) and shut off the truck the reverse lights stay on until I remove the key from the ignition. I backed it inside the barn the other day and shut it off went into the house and came out the next day to find that it had melted the back of the taillight housings. also I have been having issues with blowing out the right brake light bulb replaced 4 in the last 3 months.

mustang it is just about impossible for the electrical to burn out the bulb. just your poker playing luck. on the backup lights I think I know exactly what the problem is. the previous owner rewired it to be that way. we do ours a little different that is better and more flexible. we have the painless 6 fuse blocks on our trucks we come from a fuse to a switch on the dash to the backup lights eliminating the pcm and switch now when I back up a long trailer in the dark I have the option to turn off the backup lights and use the trailer lights and when I am hooking a trailer up I can turn them on see what I am doing. you do not have to take the key all of the way out, just learn to pull the key out far enough the door chime quits. exwrestler I was not paying any attention to this thread until this morning, your 06 has different wiring than previous models and most is bad. all lights are individually controlled by solid state devices in the pcm. even the sound of your signal lights is from a synthesized sound from a speaker. where I live I do not have a problem with moisture but other places that do people have had moisture corroding the pcm circuit board. also all of the trailer lights go through the circuits in the pcm, a trailer light short will signal the logic module in the pcm and it will shut the solid state circuit off and must be reset by dealer. after several times you can not reset it. anyone pulling a trailer should (must) use a isolator circuit. we run a fleet of trucks including several 06 trucks and make our own isolators but I have seen adds for them in the last three or four years. I will try to post a pix of schematic, if you need part #'s to build one pm me. on a side note , do your egt's a favor and throw the edge in the trash and get a smarty jr. sorry to hear you have a automatic.

Ok boys so here is the deal. When I hooked it back to stock everything is fine. Ran it a week to make sure. Hooked my 7 way in the bed and within a day it was acting up again. So I called curt manufacturing and they are sending me out a new harness and 7 way part #56071. Hopefully that's the problem. The guy did tell me on the phone they had another issue similar to this about a year ago. I will keep you posted.
