hmmmm.....
Sorry to hear about your trouble.
I was one of the first people to report the problem on this site. I was very ticked about the hesitation and puffs of blue smoke. Dealer ordered me another truck. It better be right this time!
Has anyone else had the reflash performed on their troubled 2004.5 Cummins? I am curious if the reflash is working on any of the trucks.

Truck is back on 4th. ser. call. Chrysler is paying for my rental. The dis. manager has assigned two tecs. to work on fix. Service manager tried to call today but I missed call. He left message saying he had info on truck. I have req. replacement veh. twice. I dont think its going to happen though. They gave me the rental so they could keep the truck until they find a fix. They know I will lemon it if not right this time............. Found another PROBLEM on way to 4th. service call. The preheat or warm-up cycles the truck goes into after starting is not working right. Started cold engine(temp. low 40s.) only stayed in for 3seconds. AT dealership restarted hot engine two minutes after turning off and warm-up cycle stayed on 45 seconds(like it was a cold eng. on 15 deg. day). I believe a temp. sensor is bad. This same sensor could be sending faulty data to ECM causing miss.

What does the truck do during this warm up cycle when it is hot? I have noticed upon resart when mine is hot something will be clicking on and off kinda dimming the lights for about a minute off and on.

I think its the glow plugs. this truck acts differently from my 02. the 02 had preheated air intake( in which engine fan would run) and glow plugs which would cycle on and off. When engine was hot the glow plugs would not cycle , or maybe just briefly. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will fill us in.

Good question. Unfortunately, I have no experience peformance boxes on the 600. I do know now that if the problem is not fixed by the reflash, then you have another problem that needs to be addressed and will only become worse if you put on a performance box. My suggestion would be to get it running right first, then modify it.
I imagine it is possible though. As stated before, the problem occurs within a very small band of the torque curve, but once you get it to happen once, its almost like you can't get it to stop without driving WOT all the time. If you put a box on, maybe you wouldn't be in the range anymore, but with my luck I would tell you it would work, you would go buy one, and it would only make it worse somehow.

BigBlock2Stoke,
I'm with you, I have an appointment this Saturday to have the reflash performed. I would like to stay away from engine bombing unless there is no choice. Let's hope the re-flash has the desired effect.
You made me cringe when you said:

It is raining here tonight in SE PA. I noticed on the way home from work, that the engine was very confused with the 2000 rpm hiccup. WAY more than usual. Up until now, it has been a nuissance, tonight it was floor it, or never get up to speed!
We shall see!
Thanks for the info,
Fred

just that other people who have had the reflash have stated that it didn't work for them.
If you have a problem with injectors and you are now asking that much more from the duty cycle by adding a peformance box to the engine, it would probably make the problem worse.
