redline mtl problems??

just went to the tranny shop and they told me that the reason that my truck is grinding when i try to get into second gear, is the redline mtl/ mt90 i put into it. they said it works against the syncros. i was told to put the mopar fluid back into it and it should clear up my problems. all i have evey heard about redline is it is great. any comments??

Did you put in MTL or MT90?? MTL is for the NV5600, MT90 is too thick for the tranny.

Atf is not for the nv5600 it is for the G56. Amsoil MTL seems to work fine in mine though.

MTL is differnt fromt he MT90 like was said above, the MTL is GL5 rated IIRC and also is 70/140 does that sound right.

My truck kind of "bumps" a bit when shifting into 3rd, especially if I don't rev out 2nd. It doesn't really grind, and still shifts and drives, so it really wasn't a warranty issue, but didn't shift well.

I switched to MTL hoping it would help, and then started having trouble getting the thing into gear after idling in neutral.

I e-mailed Redline, and they sent me some stuff with a newer fomula (for free) which seems to have taken care of the problem, and it shifts better.

I would encourage you to contact Redline and see if they have any ideas. From my dealings with them, they will bend over backwards to make sure a customer is happy.

okay. thanks. that is one of the problems i am having. if i let it idle in neutral, its really hard to get into gear. it only started doin this after i put the southbend clutch into it. it feels to me like the syncro and the gear are stuck together. i dont know what is going on with it but i dont like it one bit

Did you upgrade the hydraulics when you installed the OFE? If it's hard to get into gear it usually means the clutch isn't fully releasing.

Sounds more like a clutch problem then a tranny problem to me. Maybe something is not right with the clutch. Didn't you say it rattled when you first put it in?

yeah it rattled really bad and it feels like its not fully disengaging at all. i called peter about the rattle and he told me it would go away when it broke in. he was right about that cause it doesnt rattle anymore, just doesnt like to disengage like it should

When I switched to Redline MTL my tranny got hard to shift. After 3 weeks I drained it and put the OEM fluid back in and the problem went away. My tranny just did not like the MTL. Some people have good luck with MTL and some do not. I also have the CON OFE clutch with the upgraded hydraulics and it works great.
