The dealer called back and offered to do the R&R for $900 instead of $1200. The local shop also called me and offered to do it for $600, or to do the whole job for $4000 and include a 3/100 parts and labor warranty.

$600 sounds a little better, but most shops are happy charging $400-450 to do the swap.

As far as warranties go, they are only as good as the person offering them. There are a lot of ways for a shop to try and get out of the warranty work if something bad does go wrong. Guys like Dave Goerend and Dusty from HTS got their reputations soley by doing people right. You don't see any banner ads or marketing going on for them and look how popular they are. To me that says it all.

The truck is at the local shop. He'll let me know tomorrow if I'm looking at adjustment or rebuild. I'm leaning toward having him do the rebuild so I won't be on the hook for labor if something goes wrong with a Goerend tranny, but I don't have to decide until after he lets me know what the diagnosis is.

Price ought to be the same for either option.
