Rear End Shutter?

I have drive line shutter or jerking problem with my 03 6 speed SRW LWB .This happens when I take off after a long drive and the truck would be in bind like wheel turn or up hill or when camper is behind me. The dealer replace the u joints and that didn't help..Does anyone else know what could this be and do you have the same problem ..Thanks Larry

From your description of it doing it when the truck is in a bind (In a tight turn).... It sounds like the normal occurence from an "Anti slip" rear end.

They will chatter a bit when in a real tight turn.

Just a guess from this end.....

Did the 03 have a anti slip, meaning it will take a additive
I didn't think the rear ends req. that...So is this short 5ft. at the most jerking is normal?

The LSD states "DO NOT ADD ADDITIVE" that is from AAM and is listed in the manual.
Youmay want to check the rear end fluid level. Alot of them wwere shipped 1-2qts low.
It is true the LSD rearend will cause one of the wheels to studder if it is in a bind, which means it's doing it's job.

Re; shudder

Well I got my shudder fix, I change the rear oil which had 25k miles on it and it went away, I wanted to check this before I posted anything so that is gone..

Now I have a power steering leak so I'm off to the dealer for this it is leaking where the metal nut tightens into the nut on the pump, might be the flare on the end of the hose went bad I can't see a crack and it is coming from the nut inside not around..

Seems this has been issue with dodge's from what searching I did on it..

Mine skips a tire whenever I launch hard on a turn. When I'm not towing I run 40psi in the rears and they're chirp chirp chirp if I put a little foot into it. The trac-rite responds to torque load. When it locks up, it doesn't slip. The tire does until you let off the loud peddle. Hopefully it'll come back or I'd wonder what happened to your LSD.
Also, take note if you filled it to the fill hole, if you develope a slight vibration above 60mph. I'm still not convinced that my minor vibration isn't due to me over filling the rear end. If an ounce of tire imbalance can cause a vibration, I'm thinking a quart+ of oil being slapped by the carrier at 700rpm highway speed could also cause a vibration along with foaming and overheating. The only reason I say that is, I didn't have the vibration; I topped off the rear by adding almost 1.5 qts; and alluva sudden this new vibration appeared. So as soon as I get over my laziness, I plan to drain it and add 2.38 qts as stated in the shop manual for the 10.5 and see what happens.

Not to forget, a little launch shudder from the axle twisting upward when you launch with some authority with the torque of the Cummins is normal. Some have fashioned ladder bars and traction bars to keep the axle linear when pouring on the coal. But then you risk a crack in the frame. Personally I prefer a little shudder. I don't know it all and don't mean to sound like I think I do. But I believe this to be the case based on my own experience.

talk to DC and they said 4 qts for the rear end gave me liters first, hell I'm in south we never measure that way, he broke it down into 4 qts.

The rear end shutter what I was getting wasn't normal due the timimg of it wheels turn and on a hill...never straight.

What I called shutter is a shaking from taking off..

10 1/2 AA -2.25 L (4.75 pts) or 2.38 qts.
11 1/2 AA -3.62 L (7.65 pts) or 3.82 qts.

My buddy's 2500 Hemi has lauch shudder too. Both of ours seem to do it more when turning. But you may have something totally different from what we're feeling. I'm just hoping your truck is normal and not giving trouble...
If it is, hopefully the dealer will find the problem and fix it...
