rear end ratios
hello everyone i have a ? this 06 diesel "auto" i'm thinking on buying, the fellow is not sure about the gear ratio, he says all the new sticker said 11.5 limited slip is that a 3.73 or 4.10 i'm thinking 3.73 would pull a 12000 lb fifth wheel up the hills around here (8000feet) what do you all think thanks merv

Get the VIN # and take to the a dealers parts department and have them print out a build sheet for you. That way you will know for sure. 4.10's will do better pulling that kind of weight but you will loose some fuel mileage running empty.

My 06 came with 3:73's. I pull a 14,500 lb ( A little over the GVW) Fifth Wheel. Load was computed by the Juice and Attitude as 76% at 65mph. Changed rear end to 4:10, load dropped to 54% at the same speed with the same tow on the same road.
I got 20.5 at 65mph with the 73's and 19.0-19.5 with the 10's running lite on the hwy. Mileage is less with the wing up and about 17 laid back.
Did some trans mods, see signature, when towing the fiver, I run up to tow speed and then turn on the Juice to the tow position. Advertised 730ft/lbs at the tires. It don't downshift, it don't slow down, and gets 11.5 to 11.9 mpg.
Truck weights in at 9040lbs, 105 gallons of fuel, generator, hitch etc and me and the wife in the truck.
4:10's are the way to go. If a 4:30 gear was made for it, I would install it.
4:56 is the next one up.

might try one of these:
Go to a VIN decoder website, such as AutoCheck.com, DecodeThis.com or DMV.org. You can use any of these websites to decode your VIN and reveal the meaning of each character to find vehicle specs. Enter the VIN in the search box on any of these sites, then press "Enter."
